The South High Football Colonels are back baby! Colonel Pride!!!!!

So I'm just amazed at how it was week 4 before I heard about what's going on at the school that gets press at the drop of a hat for negativity that happens there. I'm on social media most of my day and nothing? Shame. But that's why Shamrock Sports has tried to step up for these situations. The heart and soul of who I am came from my Dad first, South High next. Extremely ironic for this story but this is what it's all about. Maybe some people look at this like "Dude, you have been out of high school for 20yrs, give it up!". I feel bad for people who have that mind set because 23 years later I'm still grateful for the friends, life lessons, and care I received from this school. The bonds that were made back then through this school as well as football, still are rock solid in my life today. I'm pretty sure my audience know where I'm from and who I represent.

Last week I did a little writing and posted some photo and articles of South High's Romp of The Auburn Dandies where Star Running Back, Angelo Larose, smashed his way to 413yds and 7 TD's. It brought back memories of when I walked into that school and it was a football atmosphere from the jump. Coach Bob Larose has brought it back. I didn't realize the level of heart this guy has. Lot more to this story than just a good football team, or a star running back. It's way more. After hearing about this team, thoughts of a podcast came rushing through my brain and only one man came to mind. A great friend of mine who i had been trying to interview for his own career, but who better than former South High Super Star running back, Bismark Osei. I called him, he agreed and then did an entire podcast with me while riding a bike. I'm amazed at the camera work quite frankly but this dude is capable of anything. We reviewed his career and really got a great convo recorded. Bismark is as phenomenal of a human being as he is an athlete. Sports IQ @1million. Football IQ @ off the radar.

Coach Larose reached out earlier in the week and thanked me for my support, for my love of the Colonels and the pride in which I take for this school and this side of the city of Worcester. He saw our podcast and invited me to come check out practice. I was shooting for a sit down with him and his son on a ZoomCast. Well, he brought it one step further and invited me down to practice. He said you just can't read about these kids, I want you to come meet them and learn their stories. See the intensity and bond they have, the heart. My mind just kind of stopped in its tracks. Immediate DeJaVu right to South High memories. The teachers and coaches that cared about the well being of the kids. I'm telling you. I don't know what a teachers salary is, but it takes a different kind of passion to be one and actually care about the student in front of you. I had many teachers that just threw work at us and were deemed "Great Teachers". It takes a special person to be a coach. A coach cares about his players well being off the field as well as on. A coach cares about the weakest links on the team just as much as the stars. And that's why Coach Bob Larose is finding success. He knows the struggles because he had them, had friends who had them, family who had them, and comes from a neighborhood and a community that accepts mistakes and will stay loyal to them without question. He cares about this school and believes man. How refreshing that was to learn, there aren't words. He's doing this for the same reason I do my podcast. There is hope for the future of this city for all those who say different. And his opinion means something because he's out there doing something about it. They have a new field being built for them and the city didn't have an answer, so Coach goes out and rents one from his own pocket. They don't have a weight room yet so what does Coach do? Goes out and rents one from his own pocket. Storage container for equipment. Makes sure his kids are taken care of and treated fairly wherever they play. Makes up snacks and brings drinks for them. Just, the ultimate model of what a real coach does for his team. I noticed that I have subconsciously been spotlighting a lot of father son duos from the city. I guess it's because of the respect and gratefulness to my Dad, and I miss him like crazy. He knows how hard his son worked to get where he his, the pride he has instilled in him, and also knows he's the spotlight. He knows people will be coming out of the woodwork to interview him, the media snakes. When I arrived at practice with my secret weapon Bismark, there was a reporter there already. I guess he had received a request and only granted the reporter access to the team if he did an article on the forever overshadowed lineman. The Hogs. I can assure you there's a giant Jim Miller shining down on you from above Coach Larose.

Now I will say one thing about Angelo. Kid is all business. He's a leader, a worker, intense, has great vision inside the tackles, follows his block and hangs on to the rock. Coach tells me he's probably better on defense which is scary. He has 1333yds in 4 games. 17TD's. We will follow this team all year win, lose or draw. More stories will be told throughout the season, I will be at games to grab my own assessment, my own footage. I have ideas. But this last video I can share with you that I took of the break down Angelo led at the end of practice says it all. This was only a Tuesday afternoon practice, I wouldn't want to get in the way of these kids after this on GameDay.

Overall it was awesome to be there. Of course Old Faithful, Freddy Leon was there as he always has been. Fred bleeds South High and had a pretty successful career on his own athletically, but about that role model thing, he's always cared about the well being of his students and his players. Fred was Big Jim's right hand dude, one of many. But no doubt they were cut from the same cloth. Checkout the Big Jim Tribute show I did on my YouTube Channel Shamrock Sports. Freddy's heart was on display in full for his friend and former South High Line Coach and Legend, Jim Miller.

Also got to take this picture of 3 Former South High Running Backs. Coach Larose posted it with the caption "10,000yds and climbing in one picture" Bismark Osei, Brian Brothers and current South High Workhorse, Angelo Larose. I had goosebumps the entire time. Overall this gave me so many ideas. I spent the week doing research on records and what kind of numbers players are putting up all over the country. Well, it won't be long till they recognize what's going on here in Worcester, at South High, and who is making it all happen. Kudo's Coach Bob Larose and staff, and much respect to the players putting it out there on the field every game like true Colonels. Colonel Pride is back!!!!!!!!!!!
